There are many definitions of Marketing  

“Marketing is the process by which companies create customer interest in products or services. It generates the strategy that underlies sales techniques, business communication, and business development. It is an integrated process through which companies build strong customer relationships and create value for their customers and for themselves.”  — Wikipedia___

  • Marketing is systematic planning of teaching consumers why they should choose your product or service over your competitors in fact marketing is everything that the consumer encounters.
  • Marketing is about identifying and understanding your customers when they come to your business

The activities of marketing are often confused with advertising, so for understanding the difference between Marketing and advertising you should know the meaning of marketing mix (4P)

What is the Marketing mix (4p) ?

Marketing mix is element of a tactical or operational marketing plan and also called the 4Ps. it was first expressed in 1960 by E J McCarthy.

The 4Ps are:

  • Product (or Service).
  • Place(or distribution)
  • Price.
  • Promotion.
  • Product

Product means the goods-and-services combination the company offers to the target market. The way that we use this component in order to marketing called “Product” of 4ps. This can be in the form of a better quality or different size(s), color(s), and so on of your product. 

  •  Place(or distribution)

Place includes company activities that make the product available to target consumers. You can use this component for marketing by answering this question : Where do buyers look for your product or service? And how we can provide better access for customers? What’s the advantage of distribution our products to the target market in compare with competitors?   

  • Price

Price is the  amount the consumer  must exchange  to receive your  products or services. This component of 4P is one of the key elements of every B2C strategy. for using price  in marketing there are many factors to consider. , your pricing needs to  enable you to reach your revenue and market share goals and also reflect the value you provide versus your competitors.

  • Promotion

Promotion refers to raising customer awareness of a product or brand, generating sales, and creating brand loyalty

Fundamentally, there are three basic objectives of promotion. These are:[3]

  1. To present information to consumers and others.
  2. To increase demand.
  3. To differentiate a product.


an effective promotional strategy requires the marketer understand how promotion fits with other pieces of the marketing mix . Advertising consider  as  a one elements of promotion that  typically done with brochures, commercials, direct mailings or e-mail messages, personal contact, etc.
